It’s easy to criticize.
By Rodolfo R. Roman
It’s easy to criticize. Dictionary.com defines the word
as to judge or discuss the merits and faults of. That’s
very easy to do. In fact, we probably do it everyday. Perhaps
you do it at dinner time with family members. It’s human
nature. At times, it makes us feel good to criticize. It’s
just another way to silence and satisfy the “ego”.
In my personal opinion, the best criticism comes from those
who know. Those who know and criticize use facts.
Unfortunately for the Bush administration they can’t
solidly criticize. They just criticize because they want too.
I guess, its fun for them and they consider it a hobby, game,
or maybe they are just watching their backs. How many times
have they been criticized in recent weeks because of some
inept scandal? Umm…I think a lot, right?
Well, I think both the Democrats and Republicans have put
on their boxing gloves and are ready to battle it out in a
10 round bout. Aside from the threat that President, George
W. Bush has made to the Democratic Congress about vetoing
a law that encompasses a deadline for troops to come back
home from a no-purpose war in Iraq, the latest twist is the
criticism of Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Syria. Face it:
these two just can’t get along.
Pelosi, the leftist speaker of the House of Representative,
visited Syria last week. In her tour, she spoke to Syrian
President Bashar Assad. The Bush administration says Syria
has fueled the violence in Iraq . The administration also
manifests that Syria funds two terrorist groups: Hamas and
Hezbollah. The groups, of course, terrorize certain areas
of the Middle East .
On the other side of the coin, did you know the U.S. sold
such violent arms to these little terrorist groups that were
once our allies? I bet you the media won’t say that
one.
Either way, the administration might be 70 percent on the
money that Syria helps these radicals. However, they are forgetting
about a notion very important in foreign policy: Diplomacy.
That’s right folks; it’s ok to have a dialogue
with the enemy before we lunch another pointless war.
Personally, I don’t think Pelosi’s visit was a
naïve move. I don’t think it’s a punch at
the Republicans. I think it’s smart. It’s a start
to begin a weird and dark friendly relationship with these
Syrians who really don’t like us. Well, they and probably
most of the world don’t like us.
You see, when Bush sends the lovely Secretary of State, Dr.
Condoleezza Rice to these little summits and Arab meetings
all she does is speak, speak, speak, and speak more. You get
the point. So, what’s the outcome of these conversations:
Another meeting that will lead to another verbal meeting.
Duh! Why doesn’t Bush and our Vice-President, Dick Cheney
criticize that?
I agree with the Democrats, who have their problems as well.
The fact that we haven’t spoken to Syria on a one-on-one
conversation has led to an impasse on a possible relationship
with them that we can benefit from. Perhaps they can assist
us in our Middle East trauma.
In the meeting, Pelosi addressed Assad. She told her that
Israel wants peace. So, pretty much, she was a messenger boy.
At least she has the courage to do it. Let bygone’s
be bygone’s. Syria has agreed to negotiate with Israel
in the past year. Yet, not has been done by either party.
Again, this meeting was brilliant. Well, except our tax money
is paying for this visit. Gosh, these guys have it so good.
So, why the criticism. Well, the Republicans need to pick
on something for the media can focus on something else instead
of their blunders. It’s sad, but that’s politics.
Today, New Mexico Governor and Democratic candidate, Bill
Richardson visited North Korea . I wonder what Washington
will say to him.
See, if we where to put politics aside, there will be a big
possibility of having a productive dialogue that could lead
to progression with these enemies. I don’t think Bush
has figured it out yet, after being in office for 6 years
and almost four months. So my message to our leaders: Forget
your ego and the future of your party. Think of the present
and negotiate a deal with our enemies to stop the killing
and let our nation benefit presently and in the future.
Maybe if we would have had a direct conversation with Saddam,
we might have avoided the almost 3,300 U.S. soldier deaths.
For your information: Communication is the key to a successful
and happy relationship. That’s what psychologist recommends
to a nutty relationship. Maybe, Bush and his crony’s
should visit one.
I don’t have anything against Bush, but it’s so
easy to criticize stupidity. |
